About the Troutman Flag:
In 1836 eighteen year old Joanna Troutman sewed a flag for a battalion of Georgia volunteers who were leaving to help Texans in their fight for independence from Mexico during the Texas Revolution. The flag had a five-pointed star and the words "Liberty or Death" below it.
About the Liberty or Death slogan:
Liberty or Death is a slogan made famous during the independence struggle of the United States. The slogan derived from the Patrick Henry "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech he made to the Virginia Convention in 1775. He is credited with having swung the balance in convincing the Virginia House of Burgesses to pass a resolution delivering the Virginia troops to the Revolutionary War.
