About the "Come and Take It" slogan:
"Come and take it!" was the American patriotic slogan used by Colonel John McIntosh in 1778 during the American Revolution when the British demanded the surrender of Fort Morris in Georgia. It was used again in 1835 at the Battle of Gonzales during the Texas Revolution. As a symbol of defiance toward the Mexican government the Texans fashioned a flag with the phrase "come and take it" along with a star and an image of the cannon they had received four years earlier from Mexican officials. This phrase is often heard from pro-Second Amendment activists as a defense of the right to keep and bear arms.
